The Telling

Have you ever wondered why everyone doesn’t quickly accept the free salvation offered to them by our Lord Jesus Christ? There are two alarming reasons or answers to this critical question, beyond the reason that they just don’t want to give up the control of their lives to Christ.

The first is very disconcerting—because many people are saying, “I really don’t want to have anything to do with those hypocrites!”—referring to many, if not all Christians. And the second reason is embarrassing—because too many people are saying, “I really don’t understand what you’re trying to tell me.”

Because people are using these two reasons to reject Jesus and His offer of salvation, we really need to address these two reasons—to do so, let’s ask ourselves these two questions:

  1. How should we to be living so that we are not labeled as ‘hypocrites?
  2. How can we better our communication skills, so that people can quickly and clearly understand the message of salvation?

Many Christians have taken the position that it really does not matter how they live or conduct themselves—other than we mustn’t do bad things—because God has forgiven us of our past sins, and He’ll also forgive us for all of our faults and those sins we commit in the future.

While forgiveness is a wonderful truth, we are told by the Apostle Paul that this does not give us the liberty to live our lives as we wish without taking others into consideration. Paul said, “you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble.” (1 Corinthians 8:9 NLT)

The Apostle Paul has made it very clear that every person who becomes a Christian has “become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:9-11, 17-20) But today many Christians are not living any differently than they did before they became a Christian. So, something must be wrong in the way they are living their lives—so we will therefore investigate this further in this book.

Paul also gives us the second reason for this book. Paul makes it very clear that every Christian has “a fearful responsibility to the Lord”—to live our lives in such a way that we will all be constantly sharing the love of Christ and the message of salvation with all of those around us. He says the fact is, that all Christians have been given “the task of reconciling people to God.” This is not a responsibility that just a few Christians have, but “we will all stand before Christ one day to be judged”—as to how well we have fulfilled this important responsibility.

Jesus first explained it to his disciples this way, saying it is every Christian’s responsibility to be “bearing good and lasting fruit” (cf. Matthew 7:13-29; John 4:34-38, 15:16)

We must all therefore make it our top priority to carry out this responsibility of ‘bearing fruit’ and ‘reconciling people to God’ as best as we can. And, I am sure you do not want to disappoint Him after all He has done for you—I know I sure don’t!

When we become Christians, Paul explains, we are to be committing ourselves to a disciplined lifestyle, and we must be doing all we can to be ‘reconciling people to God’. However, this is not an easy task—but this book is written to help you…

We will therefore first look at how we ought to be living our lives—because this is more important than often realized—and because we must not become an obstacle to those people around us who need to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Also, we will look at what we say to others—because what we say needs to be clearly stated and shared in an orderly manner—to avoid miscommunication. In this regard many books have been written on this subject of how to share the message of salvation with people, but most have overlooked how to share these truths in the correct order, and what we ought not to be sharing too quickly with people.

The focus of our ministries over the years has been explaining to people at home and cross-culturally how to effectively share the love of Jesus and the message of salvation with others. So, I trust this book will help you in these same ways, as we share with you what has proven to work for us.
